Yesterday saw fellow (hardcore) winter doodler John Lee and myself at the Memphis Zoo, braving drizzle and rain to draw anything that was crazy enough to be out in the cold with us. I'll spare you the REALLY bad drawings that came from numb hands and soaked pages and show a couple of the nicer ones from the trip.

Otomo's Bike
This was a piece I did as an homage to one of my favorite animated films of all time. More than two decades after its theatrical release, it's still a jaw dropper.

Amok Time BFF
This is a recently finished piece inspired equally by a very special moment in television history and a YouTube masterpiece.
Preparing to transfer the drawing to cold press illustration board via lots of friggin' graphite on the back of the sketch.
Some of the tedious first steps. the cruddy white areas in the first picture are masked off areas made with artists tape and an X-acto knife. The dark area in the second picture is my shadow looming over the shot...
